When you know that Monday is a holiday too, then that weekend becomes extra special.
Both husband and wife wake up early morning. Wife tells husband that she wants to have authentic freshly made idli and vada for breakfast. Husband and wife dress up and undertake an hour’s journey to reach East Ham Vasanta Bhavan. By the time they reach there its past 11 am and they decide to make the meal a brunch. This just means that they will eat more!!!
After the meal, they walk to the market place nearby and stroll through the High Street. She smells the mulla poo garlands in a few shops and remembers how wonderful it is to be a South Indian.
Back from East Ham, they stop by Ealing Park and play badminton for two and half hours. Now they are no longer amateurs and have played together twice before. So this time they play like they have never played before – aerial shots and intensive stretches. The guilt of not having gone to gym gets replaced by the joy of having done some sort of an exercise together.
They return home, have a glass of rosé and sit to watch Amelie.
Can a Saturday be more wonderful????

Sounds so perfect! Our long weekend started off with a lot of promise on Friday night but ended up becoming quite hectic as we entertained friends who stayed over up until Sunday; enjoyable nevertheless. Monday was lovely though. We did a grand total of nothing. And it couldn't have been better. It's going to be the weekend again soon - yay!
I believe this was the last bank holiday for the year. :(
Definitely looking forward to this weekend!!
Vasanta Bhavan- that's the one!
We went to *both* Vasanta Bhavan and Saravana Bhavan at East Ham in a idli -vada-sambhar pilgrimage a couple of months ago and were thrilled by Vasanta Bhavan and appalled by the service and quality of food at Saravana Bhavan.
So much for having a great reputation. Their headphone toting waitresses couldn't be asked to take an order properly, and their food was well just OK. A far cry from when the food they used to serve up in Madras years ago.
Vasanta Bhavan on the other hand, had good 'old school' service, and great food.
You've tempted us to redo that pilgrimage. ((sigh))

Sounds like a perfect weekend !!
Is vasantha bhavan better than chennai dosa / saravana bhavan ??
a.a & Silentone,
We did see Saravana Bhavan while we walked thru East Ham...but after the full tummy from Vasanta B, didn't enter the place.
Silentone, as you say Saravana Bhavan food did have the authentic flavour!!
