Me and My Car

Fortyfiveminutes getting a driving license got me thinking of my driving stories:

There is something about you, your car and the road in front of you. I am not much of a driving person, in traffic i.e, but give me an empty road and a car and I am happy for life. When you are driving and there is this vast road in front of you, there’s that feeling of oneness with the universe. You can think of anything and come up with solutions for everything. With just the steering wheel in your hand, you can manoeuvre through your entire life – you can understand why you are married to the man you love, your know why your son is so so far away and yet you love him with all your heart, you know why you are at your job despite not earning all that great a salary, you know why your parents and you can never get along for more than 20 days at a time.

And then you listen to the buzz of your car, it’s so quiet and comfortable and you don’t realise that you have been doing 90 miles per hour. That’s how serene you feel.

The whole experience brings a smile to face. Yes I can go through it all, yes I am strong….

Then you park your car, get out, open the door to your front room and the first thought that hits you…”Oh what do I cook for dinner?” Now why couldn’t I decide on it while driving back?
